Summary Reflection TOYS “R” US Expert Answer
Toys “R” Us, the 70-year-old toy chain store that was once widely recognized as a children’s dreamland, was liquidated in 2017. Toys “R” Us have driven to its own downfall, when it entered a deal of 10 years in which it only supply toys to Amazon in 2000. But in spite of deal, Amazon started allowing other toy suppliers to sell on its platform and Toys “R” Us terminate the contract from Amazon in 2004. As a consequence, Toys “R” Us thus lost the chance to establish their own e-commerce operation early on. Perhaps too late in May 2017, Toys “R” Us declared its intention to redesign its platform as part of $100 million investment for the e-commerce. Yet, it was too late to respond to the rapid advancement in the digital technological sector. Ismail (2017) mentioned that Toys “R” Us entered late to the party by waiting until 2006 to consider the e-commerce world literally. Similarly, Bill Davis said “the misinterpretation of e-commerce has proceeded [Toys R Us] to lose the path of success.”
Praful Saklani, the CEO of Brisbane, observed that “Toys” R “Us struggled as it didn’t have a cohesive digital strategy to combine with a special high-touch interface.” The lack of attention in this field rendered the debt daunting and incapacity to contend with giants like Amazon and Walmart. Even David Brandon, CEO of Toys “R” Us, confessed that the company entered the e-commerce market late (Albanese, 2017). In short, it is clear that businesses who do not invest in the organizations’ digital transition are highly vulnerable to changes in the market and will quickly become a part of history.
