Section 1: Introduction
Question 1a: This assignment is focused on analysing the airline service data of Australia to assess the performance of three Australian cities, with respect to different airlines. The main purpose is to offer recommendations to Sydney airport for improvement of airline service, such that it can compete in effective way. Therefore, two data sets are used, one is based on research of Australian Government about different airports performance, while other has been collected from KOI students about their good experience of flying from three Australian airports, including; Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
The chosen article is about performance measurement of airports, which is in line with objective of this report. The research has made comparison of airport performance measurement over time and considered that performance data of airports is of huge importance for different stakeholders, of which airlines hold important placing. The airlines compare and contrast cost and performance of different airports with an aim of assessing the service quality of airports to airlines. Therefore, the paper has highlighted that airports need to focus on improvement of performance to accommodate increasing growth of passengers, enhanced regulations, improvement in technology and escalating concern of consumers towards environmental protection. The papers provides insight for consideration of dynamic measures in performance assessment of airports, such that high quality airline services can be promoted.
Question 1b: The underlying data set is secondary which has been obtained from Australia Government website and it has been collected to gain insight of international airline activity. The data is obtained from year 2003 to 2018 and it is comprised of both categorical as well as numerical variables. The core focus has been maintained on monthly number of flights in or out from specific airports to Australian city as well as to international cities. The cases in this data set are airlines which are specifically considered for flight to and from Australian cities, to investigate the total number of operating flights, which reflect competitiveness of airports in different cities.
Question 1c: In order to gain insight of flying experience of students to and from Australian airports in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, the primary data has been collected. The data has been collected through survey from 230 student of KOI, which have experience of flying from given Australian cities. The size of sample was considerably large, which lowers bias from results. Moreover, sample was chosen randomly and it was a true representative of the population, which indicates that limitations are minimised for this data set. The data was obtained for three variables; in and out flying experience, reviews on flying experience and Australian cities.
