Report On Implementation Of Information System And Digital Disruption Technologies By Tata Motors And Whether The Indian Culture Accepts It or Not
Introduction
Tata Motors is one of the top leading automotive firm in India’s automobile industry. The company is the world’s 4th largest truck manufacturing company (Kumari & Nagarajan, 2015). The company also provides information technology facilities, machine equipment, tools for construction manufacturing and plastic elements for specific applications. Tata Motors has been internationalizing its functions all over the world and has been evolving rapidly, the company export its vehicles all over the world (Garg, 2019) The company is recognized on an international forum due to its quality product. Information system and digital disruption has been introduced by Information Technology for the ease of the individuals. This report will discuss the implementation of these both technologies by the Tata Motors and whether the Indian culture accepts it or not.
Tata Motors is one of the largest companies in India generating a good revenue for the country that helps to increase the GDP of the country. Information system is a new technology in the 21st century that helps to store data/information about the company through technology (Rajendrakumar, Parvati & Ram, 2015). Information System is defined as “an integrated environment of the hardware, software, peoples which mainly functions for the purpose of collecting and processing data to valuable information by applying a list of procedures on data collection, thus information is derived from data by IS procedures, and clears the difference between data and information” (Hasan, 2018, p. 1)
India is now an emerging market for new opportunities in different fields, the individuals in the country are accepting new technologies but slowly and gradually. Dutt and Srite (2005) in their conference paper on the Information System cited few papers that portrayed acceptance of technology by the Indians was different and found out that the acceptance can also be dependent on national basis. Subsequently, through the implementation of the information system in the rural setting of India there was a cultural transformation in that areas but that occurred slowly that is over a period of three to four years. The cultural transformation in the area included a change in the individuals’ awareness of status, order and management, a distribution of control between the nation and the regions and a rise in the utilization of information generated by information technology for making decisions (Leidner & Kayworth, 2006). Tata motors have implemented Management Information System, System Application and Products this helps to manage information regarding logistics, orders, delivery and departments efficiently. The technological plants of the company were previously guided by information systems on the bases of mainframe which then were linked to multiple systems and applications. This led to an increase in costly maintenance and confused system incorporation, through the implementation of the SAP the management of the data has been efficient (Dhingra, 2016). The data is restored and doesn’t require double entry, there was a rise in production, dealers were hired easily and the process of decision making is easier. This shows that the cultural context of India is accepting the use of the information system by the company as the booking of an automobile from Tata Motors have been computerized. The booking of an automobile doesn’t require lengthy processes as the process has now been computerized and the customers can order their automobiles through a click.
The concept of digital disruption is new in this era, digital disruption in some way is digital transformation through which the existing product or service is upgraded by the stakeholders to provide comfort to the customers. Digital disruption is defined as “The rapidly unfolding processes through which digital innovation comes to fundamentally alter historically sustainable logics for value creation and capture by unbundling and recombining linkages among resources or generating new ones” (Skog, Wimelius & Sandberg, 2018, p. 433). The Indian economy is an emerging one that promotes opportunities to new producers in the market and motivates them to use new technologies for the comfort of the customers (Bello, Radulovich, Javalgi, Scherer & Taylor, 2016). Digital disruption in some way eases the work of the company as the product or service is transformed digitally. There has been an introduction of electrical vehicles in the world especially in the developed countries like USA and China. Tata Motors hasn’t introduced an electrical vehicle yet but is looking forward to produce electrical vehicles in India. However, when consumers were asked if a previous automobile company manufactures an electrical vehicle then will they use it then only 30 percent in 2019 of the customers said they will use those vehicles whereas it was 29 percent in the preceding year (Automotive World, 2019). This shows that the Indians will get used to the electrical vehicles slowly and gradually as majority of the individuals in the country does not have the awareness of electrical vehicles. The individuals don’t have any appropriate knowledge to reduce the carbon emissions through the decrease in use of fuel based automobiles. When these individuals are given awareness of an electrical vehicle and its advantages than the individuals will adapt to this technology as the rural Indians adapted to information system (Automotive World, 2019). Miranjkar, CEO of InfrasoftTech stated that digital disruption in India has been introduced 2 decades ago through the introduction of mobiles. The country adapted to it and mostly all the people in the country are using not only mobile phones but also an upgraded version of the invention that are smart phones (BW Online Bureau, 2019). Similarly, the electrical vehicles would also be adapted by the Indians.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Information technology has been a highlight in the 21st century since the start of an era. IT has introduced many new technologies in almost every sector of an economy that has helped the society in innovating products and services for the comfort of the individuals (Ahram, Sargolzaei, Sargolzaei, Daniels & Amaba, 2017). The innovation of different products is easy for the entrepreneurs to produce due to the introduction of technology. Tata Motors is a largest automobile industry in India providing high quality vehicles all over the world, the implementation of SAP in the company has helped TATA motors to store and manage the information efficiently. Digital disruption has allowed the automobile industry to produce electrical vehicles for the comfort of the customers. Indian culture is slow in adapting new technologies be it information system or digital disruption but the culture accepts it gradually.
