Mina Nguyen is a 60-year-old retired shop attendant. She visited her doctor today with her husband,  to discuss Mina has been advised that an area on her recent BreastScreen WA mammogram looks  abnormal and further tests are recommended. Mina has been having mammograms since she was  40 as her mother was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer at age 60; she was the main carer for  her mother in the final years of her life. All Mina’s previous mammogram results have been negative  and Mina has not felt any changes in her breasts on self examination. Mina is very concerned about  this result and says she has not slept much since she heard about it.

Mina’s husband, Hien works as a government interpreter and also teaches English to migrants  entering Australia. They have two supportive, married children, Linh and Dong who live nearby and  visit every few days. Mina retired so she could help both of their children’s families by looking after  her grandchildren while their parents go to work. The grandchildren enjoy walking with Mina to the  local park. The whole family follow Catholicism and attend mass every week.

The doctor has asked his Practice Nurse to speak to Mina to get a more in-depth assessment of her problem.
