MMH231 Assessment 1 – Part A: Report

Description / Requirements

Aim: The aim of this assessment is to consider the methods of attraction utilised in an organisation of your choice.

In groups of two you will need to analyse and comprehensively review (in the context of theory), the organisation’s:

Attraction and recruitment

On completion of the review your group will be required to develop recommendations for the organisation based on the theories and approaches associated with attraction learnt in your studies this trimester to improve the current program.  In doing this, the employee life cycle model should be considered, in addition to ways to increase retention and engagement of newly appointed employees.

Group Formation

  • You will need to use the discussion space or your seminars to identify a suitable group member. The group functionality has been set up on the Cloud site in the section Group Formation (Assessment 1 Part A).

After finding a partner you will need to register your group in CloudDeakin. All groups need to be registered by the end of WEEK 4. After this time you will be automatically allocated to a pair (group), and you will then need to make this work for you both.

 

Task Structure

  1. Select an organisation. It may be your own workplace or one that can provide you with good access to attraction approaches that are used. It does not have to be a large organisation. If possible gain permission from a suitable person from within the organisation (ie HR Manager, Supervisor etc and explain the aim of the assignment as well as any possible assistance that can be given in providing information about current recruitment processes). You may also use the public websites of your chosen organisation to research some aspects of the assessment task.
  2. Some organisations may not want to be identified in your report. For this reason please anonymise the organisation when writing your report by including the following statement:
Please note: This report and any additional information obtained for this report will not be used elsewhere nor shared with any other organisation. The report will only be read by the members of the student group conducting the investigation, and the students’ lecturers/tutors/markers within the teaching team.

If necessary the company name can be replaced with ‘CompanyABC’

 

Your report must contain:

  • Title page – indicate the word count on this page
  • Executive summary
  • Table of contents
  • Introduction (100 words)
  • Background information on the organisation (100 words)
  • Attraction and recruitment (500/800 words)
  • Analysis of fit with current theory and approaches – attraction include link to retention and engagement of these approaches (1000 words)
  • Recommendations and conclusions (300 words)
  • References
