Week 4 Discussion Post - Public media programming - 150 words
National Public Radio is a distinguished public media organization in the United States. It has gained popularity over the years for its shows, such as, Morning Edition. Morning Edition might not be able to survive without the public support particularly because NPR receives grants directly from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) on a yearly basis. Therefore, Morning Edition might not be able to exist on its own without the corporate sponsorship, listener support, and grants. Digital channels have been proliferated over the years. “In the Dark” is a podcast that is produced by the American Public Media (American Public Media Group, 2017). Madeleine Baran narrates and hosts the podcast. In the Dark, alongside other podcasts, are rather different from programs aired on NPR. While Morning Edition is on radio, In the Dark is a podcast. It becomes impossible to edit radio programs after they have been broadcasted. However, podcasts can be edited because they are pre-recorded (Shenton, 2018).
