Assessment Description

Individually, design a single lesson, incorporating the appropriate measurement developmental stages (the measurement framework), within the measurement strand in the K-6 mathematics syllabus (equivalent to 2000 words) and complete a discussion of your decisions.

PART A: Lesson Plan & Launch Video (5 written pages & 3 to 5min video)

  • The lesson should be at least 40-60 min in length.
  • The target outcome for your lesson must come from either Stage Two or Stage Three Measurement (Length, Area, Volume & Capacity, or Mass (but notTime)).
  • You are to select one or more lesson ideas from Teaching Measurement Stage 2 - Stage 3,link to the correct codes in v9 ACARA or the new 2023 NESA syllabus, adapting it to make it your own.
  • It is expected that your detailed lesson plan will be approximately five pages and at least five different references, with associated APA7 citing, will be used. Any activities derived from a source should be cited appropriately.
  • This lesson must include a 3-5 minute video (designed and filmed by you) which is used to focus the students on the mathematical context of the lesson with a particular emphasis on engaging and motivating the student. The video must be incorporated into the introduction of the lesson and allow for a smooth transition into the next component of the lesson.

NOTE: I will do the video please just give me a description of what needs to be recorded please.

  • The lesson is to take an investigative / problem-solvingapproach, with an emphasis on working mathematically.
  • Important aspects of your lesson plan are:
    • Target outcomes;
    • Content;
    • Prerequisite knowledge for the lesson;
    • Resources needed;
    • Diagrams, pictures, screenshots as required to assist in the presentation of your lesson; and
    • Important teacher questions throughout the lesson.

PART B - Discussion (250-500 words)
You are asked to include a discussion explaining your lesson design and choice of student activities.

  • This written piece is expected to be between 250-500 words, should be supported by reference to your readings and wider research.
  • The "Big Idea" of Module One: Measurement in EDME358 is the Measurement Framework, as given in the two Teaching Measurementpdfs (set texts for EDME358).   Your assignment will be incomplete if the summary does not make mention of the Measurement Framework.   Other considerations (e.g. the CPA/CVPA Framework) may also have influenced your choice of student activities.

Please note that the use of technology as a teaching tool is one of the general capabilities of the current syllabus and is a strong feature of this unit. As you will see in the marking criteria for Assignment One, it is specifically included in the criteria.
