Gerontological conditions are multi-factorial and hold serious implications for functioning and quality of life (Covinsky, 2011), yet the issues arising from gerontological conditions, such as dementia, may be overlooked when myths and assumptions about older people are not recognized
and addressed.
The purpose of this assessment is to: 1) identify and demonstrate understanding of the impact of a myth associated with the older person living with dementia and its influence on their wellbeing; and, 2) dispel the myth using best practice evidence. It is expected that your poster will inform the nurse’s role and expectations of the contribution of the multidisciplinary team to provide inter- professional care.
You are also required to reflect on the impact of your learning for this assessment task on your attitudes towards older people living with dementia. This assessment task occurs in two parts: Assessment task 1a (a team poster presentation) and assessment task 1b (an individual reflection) Assessment task 1a: team poster presentation - Weighting 30%.
In teams of four (4) maximum (or 2 minimum), students are to develop an academic poster suitable for display to all staff in a group of residential aged care facilities that is focused on addressing a myth of aging related to dementia. The best evidence strategies suggested must enhance the health outcomes of an older person who is resident in an aged care facility.
