7.9 Case Study Assessment

Details

As outlined on the unit "How you will be assessed" page, this task requires you to write a 2,500 (maximum) word essay that will contribute up to 30% of your final grade for this unit. Your essay will be marked using the Case Study Rubric.

Before you begin, you should:

  1. The unit learning activities up until this point.
  2. You should have roughly 4 references per 500 words from the CQU library(general web sites are not academic sources)
  3. Using automated references by booking a librarian
  4. Examples of: case study assignments in businessand Technical accuracy in writing
  5. The MBA-L Linkedin groupand MS Teams (team code vpg8i1c) so you can discuss the assessment and course material.

Task summary

You will use the knowledge provided so far in this unit to examine and analyse the case study "The CEO Who Couldn't Keep His Foot out of his Mouth" (Burrell et al., 2006). You will use this knowledge and your analysis to write an essay of no more than 2,500 words that respond to four questions.

In completing your essay, on this case study, you are expected to draw upon broader knowledge gained in your studies to this point. Including references to other readings to support and contextualise your opinion is required.

Task description

For the last four years the company Growing Places has benefited from the entrepreneurial vision and operational savvy of the CEO Rob Miranda. However, it has also suffered from the CEO's tendency for verbal gaffes that are starting to generate bad media coverage and drops in the company's stock price. The company's founder and chair - Even Breyer - has some decisions to make. Drawing on information from the case study you will write an essay of no more than 2,500 words.

Assuming the position of Evan Breyer founder and chairman of the company, you must decide whether to continue backing Rob as CEO, or whether he should be let go.  More specifically, you are required to answer the following questions:

  1. Decide whether Rob Miranda, CEO of Growing Places, should leave or remain with the company.
  2. Support your decision for Rob to leave or remain with Growing Places by reference to the case and the four commentators.
  3. Determine the conditions under which Rob should leave, or stay with Growing Places; and finally,
  4. Suggest ways to best contain the fallout from Rob's insensitive remarks.

Task conditions

  1. Essays are marked on how well the specific requirements are achieved in accordance with the assessment criteria inthe case study rubric.
  2. Essays must be submitted in a PDF format file (.PDF).
  3. Essays must follow the APA 7th edition referencing style as specified in the APA abridged guide available fromCQUniversity's referencing guides page
  4. Your entire essay must not exceed 2,500 words.
  5. Completion of your essay is achieved through actions that align with CQUniversity's academic integrity expectations.

  5. Click on theSave changes 
  6. Check that theSubmission status of your assignment is now Submitted for grading.

Note: You are able to make changes to your submission until marking commences. This will be indicated by the submission status including "This assignment is not accepting submissions".

How and when you will receive feedback

Our intent is that you should receive feedback and a marked assignment within 10 working days. You will receive an email notification of when marking is completed and will be able to access the feedback from this page.

In some cases, the marking may not be completed within this time frame.
