Reflective Journal Part B
It is greatly assumed that career goal setting for an individual is beneficial it not considered essential for the organization. An individual who has a clear goal of their future can provide targets and attain satisfaction which leads to motivation. For an organization, an individual with a career goal has effective job performance and it leads to a better basis for result oriented human resource planning (Grote. D, 2017). Career plans are based on SMART goals which can help achieve those plans (Harrington & Hall, 2007), using the SODA questions, I recently self-assessed myself with the SODA approach now I clearly know the gaps I need to fill for the opportunities that I want to create with effective decision making and prompt action. Furthermore, it is essential that these set SMART goals are measured by the GAS tool, analyzing the level of expected outcome can help the individual in adjusting the SMART goals to attain favorable expectation in a given timeframe. During this course work I have understood the importance of career plans and have set some SMART goals for myself (1) Within two years I would like to gain experience as an HR recruiter (2) Within 7 years I would like to achieve a position of HR Manager (3) in 12 years’ time I would like to work my way up to an HR Director. Setting these smart goals has enabled me to understand the actions I need to take to achieve the HR Director position in 12 years and analyzing the goals with GAS can help me readjust or update. With the help of this course, I have a clear understanding of what I want to achieve in my career and what steps I need to take in order to be on track and manage it to be there. Building my professional identity is the first step that I need to take, by this course I can clearly identify that my personal and social identity is not a representation of my professional identity, to attain my goals the gaps that I identified for an HR professional, I need to be dressed in a professional way at all times, use a neutral language and with positive body language. This gap analysis helped me in identifying how I want to be and has enabled me to take the necessary repeated actions to minimize the gap and create my unique professional identity, during this course I concluded that professional identity is a partial representation directly or indirectly of your personal identity, keeping this approach in mind I would like to build my personal and professional identity together to achieve sustainable and effective identity. The course also enabled me to build an effective resume considering my previous resume was vague, not summarized, with an inefficient structure and did not represent any professional identity. Focusing on appearance, structure, format, focus, content and writing style were the key points I considered in building my effective resume with the clear knowledge I attained from my career plan.
