Assignment 4: Analysis of a Case Scenario
Assessment 4 Case Study Information Sheet
Assessment 4 Case Study Due Date: Sunday 12th June 2022 by 11.55pm submitted through units vUWS Turnitin
Word limit: 1,500 words
Assessment 4 is an analysis of a case scenario that you have chosen. This assessment does not require you to come up with a diagnosis, although we are asking you to identify the signs and symptoms you can refer to a diagnosis by supporting your finding with the signs and symptoms identified from the case study.
The case study analysis requires you to unpack, explore and respond to the five questions found in the learning guide using only ONE of the case studies we have provided on vUWS.
NOTE: Do not cut and paste the case study chosen and the 5 questions inserted at the beginning of your assessment! – your tutors know the case studies and the questions. Just outline which case study chosen by titling it on the top of your page: ie: Chosen case study 1 or 2 etc
Tips:
- When answering: What are the psychosocial issues for the person in the case study: Look at identifying and unpacking the psychosocial issues (holistic perspective) by outlining the signs and symptoms (psychological), not formulating a diagnosis and the social impacts this may have from your chosen case study individual. Unpack the psychological and social factors identified in the case study chosen.
- When answering: What informal supports are available to the person? look at identifying this through your research of the learning material and content from the unit , readings and what supports we have discussed throughout the 13 weeks to support recovery.
- When answering: What professional and/or agencies are involved or likely to be involved with the person? identify professionals in the field of mental health and what services or agencies may be involved in the recovery of the person – again go back to the signs and symptoms and psychosocial issues to identify services that address that particular mental health presentation by researching the areas of mental health that have presented in the case study.
- When answering: What are the gaps in service delivery for people with this mental health illness and What advocacy needs to happen for people with this mental health issue?– again think about the psychosocial issues identified and the research you have all done in assessment 3 Essay (recovery) i.e stigma; your research through watching all the podacsts/documentaries in this unit and are all on vUWs throughout the weeks; following campaigns such as Stigma watch, Beyond Blue, Blackdog Institute, SANE Australia etc; listening to lived experiences and what clients have identified to address gaps in service delivery and where advocacy lies.
You will find the answers from the recommended readings in this unit, by looking back at lecture content (i.e: psychosocial and interventions lecture) and from your tutorial exercises you have completed. You can also research into services and agencies in your analysis (remembering to reference these).
In regard to referencing: We are expecting a minimum of 5 scholarly references, you can use the units textbook and other textbooks & journal articles. You can also use additional references such as websites and so forth but please note: websites such as BeyondBlue are not scholarly references. Refer to the assessments FAQ for more information if required
Remember to AVOID labelling, stigmatising, stereotyping or generalising language.
Many students have asked if you can use the 5 questions as subheadings: Yes, you can to structure your responses under each heading. Under each subheading ensure you use FULL and complete sentences, watch your grammar, punctuation and spelling. NO DOT POINTS are to be used.
Any other queries regarding Assessment 4 in the first instance refer to the Assessments FAQ (found all over the units vUWS site), the units learning guide and the Discussion Board. If your query is not found in the FAQ, learning guide or discussion board – first, ask your query on the discussion board for a prompt and timely reply – avoid emailing UC or Tutors as there is an overwhelming demand on replying to emails and are in backlog of approximately 4 – 5 days.
