Scenario

Your team (4 of you) have been hired by the owners of Easton Ivy, a contemporary bar and restaurant in the heart of Melbourne. After a successful few years, the owners are seeking to expand Easton Ivy and open another bar and restaurant in Victoria. This is where your team comes in! The owners are seeking to ensure there is standard instructions/procedures across the restaurants and will need to train several new staff members. Therefore, they require your HRD expertise to develop a 45 minute training program. Your team needs to select one of the following topics (see below) and develop a training program. The training program is to be developed as a report, which will be considered by the owners for future implementation. Your team is to assume that if the owners are happy with your report, your team (4 of you) would be running the training program, meaning your training program should be designed to be run by 4 trainers but it still needs to contain enough information so that if another person was to run your training program they could with no issues.

Training Topics (please select ONE)

• Food handling
• Making a coffee (using a coffee machine)
• Making a special drink (such as cocktail)
• Origami napkin for table setting
• Origami paper flowers for table decoration
• Setting the table
• Closing a table (once customers have finished their meal)
• Other – please email [email protected] to get approval on a different topic idea that is within the context of the scenario

As part of the assignment task, you will need to develop instructional steps (approx. 7-9 steps) that are designed to breakdown your training topic (please keep that in mind when selecting a topic). Please pretend that the owners of Easton Ivy are paying you for this work. Therefore, you MUST not copy any resources, images, videos or instructional steps etc. from the internet/current or past workplaces. All work contained in your report MUST be your own.

Team Formation and Registration

Each team requires 4 team members. To assist with finding team members, a team formation discussion forum has been created. Once you have your team of 4, please enroll your team by going to TOOLS, then GROUPS and select an available group number. Please do not enroll in a team unless you have permission from the team to do so. All students not in a team by the end of Week 3 will be allocated together in teams of

Training Program Information

In developing the training program for Easton Ivy please note the following:
• The training program must plan to TEACH 10 employees to do something (see topic list on page 1). It must break tasks down and plan to take employees through them step by step.
• For the purposes of the assignment, you are to assume that the training would be conducted face to face (pre-covid) and that the new employees have NO prior knowledge of your topic.
• The training program must plan to have the trainees actively involved as opposed to just sitting and watching.
• The training program must plan to assess every employee individually and be built into the 45 training session plan.
• The training program must allow time for the employees to practice the task in its entirety before the assessment phase takes place.
• The training program must be designed to go for 45 MINUTES. This include the introduction, training (taking employees step by step through the task), giving employees time to practice, individually assessing each employee and then allowing time for an evaluation phase to occur.
• In developing your report (see below), there should be enough detail so that if another trainer was to deliver your training program they could with no issues.
