Q..1. Do you agree with the news reporter that Apple’s series of promises that are supposed to protect the workers in factories that supply products for the company are broken and why?

Ans. Apple is undoubtedly the world’s top company producing high in demand advance technology communication products. Its products are holding major portions among the competitive markets across the globe. Though Apple is continuously introducing enhanced technology communication products, the giant company at the same time is blamed for not keeping up with its claim of protecting the rights of the workforce associated with the manufacturing procedures in the assigned manufacturing facilities.

Supply chain is the most important segment for any production process, also considering the importance of the workforce involved with the production process their rights as prescribed by the global authorities are highly valued. Whereas, Apple either unintentionally or in urge of high profits had been ignoring the ethical protocols for its supply chain and rights of the workers associated with the production of its products.

China owing to its cheap workforce is regarded as the most ideal location by manufacturing companies. Apple to cope up with the high demand of its products and minimizing the production cost had been acquiring services of the local manufacturing facilities. The working environment and routine practices of the workforce in these facilities are completely in defiance with the globally recognized ethical guidelines. The workers are mostly hired from rural areas and without any proper training they are forced to work for long working hours. Having no provision for health care and living in extremely unhygienic conditions in the provided living accommodation, workers are exposed to serious health issues and are unable to perform with their full capabilities.

Moreover, it is also found that the Chinese manufacturing facilities working for Apple, in defiance with the international regulatory standards, is acquiring raw material mainly Tin from illegal sources. Though, Apple’s management has been repeatedly intimated regarding the issue but no productive action has been taken yet. As such, Apple can rightly be accused of not keeping up with its claimed promises regarding labor rights and accumulation of authentic raw materials.
